We
would like to welcome Fire Fighter Rich Cole to the Navy Lakehurst Fire family.
He
has been assigned to Group 7.
Retired member
TK Williams underwent surgery this week and has been released. He
is
reported to be
doing well. Members are encouraged to give him a shout and show
their
support.
The NJ USAR
Task Force was activated this week in response to hurricane Gustav.
They
responded
without Local F-114 member Joe Brown who was denied leave to fulfill
his
obligations
during the natural disaster. Operations Chief Beezly saw fit to undermine
the
Memo of
Understanding between Navy Lakehurst and the State of New Jersey. We
don't
understand how
they do things in the D.C. area, but in the northeast we honor our
mutual
aid
agreements.
Language in the
'09 National Defense Authorization Act that would allow for
contracting
out wildland
fire fighting has been removed from the House and Senate bills.
Secretary
of Defense
Gates also stated this week that planned manpower reductions will be
stopped
in the Air
Force. Still unsure, union officials feel this may be a step in the right
direction.
A new round of
fund-raising has begun, please see Matt Croslin for tickets. Members
are
encouraged to
get involved and support our Local.
Local meetings
will be held on September 20th, October 18th, November 15th (Nominations),
and December
20th (Elections).
We would like
to thank Jimmy Johnson and the other local officials in the region for their
continued
support.
Pay for
Performance? What does it mean for the Federal Fire Service in the confusion
called
NSPS? With
many employees
already being moved into the new system, no one can answer
how fire
fighters will be evaluated for their pay increases. Stay tuned, you can't make this
stuff
up!
New links, including the
NSPS homepage have been placed on our Links page.
Stand-up for Joint Base
New Jersey is still slated for October 2009. The wheels are
turnin'.
If any members
have fund-raising ideas please feel free to bring them to your Shop Steward
or E-Board
Rep.
Emergency contact forms are availible at the
union office. As stated at the recent meeting,
they will be used
only in case of emergency and will be kept under lock and key. Please help
us help your family.
